Julia Samoylova set to return for Russia!
29 January 2018 at 18:45 CETJulia Samoylova was born in 1989 in Ukhta, Russia. The singer-songwriter was a finalist in X Factor in Russia and has also won an award called Alla’s Golden Star, which was named after Russia's 1997 Eurovision participant Alla Pugacheva. Julia also performed during the opening ceremony of the Winter Paralympics in Sochi in 2014.
Julia was originally chosen to represent Russia in the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest with the song was Flame Is Burning. Broadcaster Channel One Russia are honouring the commitment made to Julia and she will appear in the 2018 contest in Lisbon.
Russia in the Eurovision Song Contest
Russia first participated in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994 but it wasn't until 2000 that the country reached the top three for the first time. Since then Russia has gone onto have a strong record in the contest. Russia won the contest in 2008 and has scored four top five placings, since 2011 Russia has always finished inside the top ten.
Russia has been drawn to perform in the first half of the Second Semi-Final of the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest on Thursday 10th May.
