Wrap-up: The Netherlands 'let their light shine'

05 July 2009 at 02:44 CEST

Who are The Toppers?

The Toppers, Gordon and René Froger, are true fans of the Eurovision Song Contest and have, for many years now, been closely following its development. Their best memories of this event originate from the time that they were little boys sitting and watching the Contest with their families on cosy evenings. With a pen and notepad on their lap and a bag of crisps close at hand, they awarded points to each song and then compared these to the points given by the jury.

"When you hear this song a couple of times, it makes you help to get a brighter day. First I liked Angel of the night more, but I think that even if we can't make it to the Final, they made the last song of their Semi-Final a little party!" a fan from The Netherlands said. A Finnish fan agreed and added: "This song is so wonderful! Shine makes me happy every time! And song is for helping all that we have. So it's good. Good luck, The Netherlands!"

Their shiny performance earned them eleven points across Europe and this meant they finished seventeenth in the second Semi-Final. Due to that they did not qualify for the Final of Europe's favourite TV-show.

In 2004 The Netherlands did quite well, qualifying for the Final as sixth and finishing twentieth in the end with Re-Union's Without You, though. Last year they finished thirteenth in the first Semi-Final of the Eurovision Song Contest with Hind's Your Heart Belongs To Me.
