Wrap-up: Safura delivers 5th place for Azerbaijan

13 June 2010 at 11:01 CEST

Who is she?

Safura started to sing at the age of three. At six she had her first stage performance. And ever since, she has taken part in various competitions. She is the winner of Azerbaijani talent show Yene Ulduz which is the equivalent to Pop Idol

Safura graduated from musical school where she played violin, though she always dreamed about playing saxophone. And if you want something very bad, you go ahead and do it. So now Safura is the only female celebrity in Azerbaijan who can play this tough instrument!

She had a dream team backing her on her way to Oslo, including some of the biggest names in the industry. For example she had the same choreographer as Beyonce!

"Thank you, guys, for everything – for all those comments and letters, for kind word of support, for unbreakable faith and for believing in me. You are my inspiration and I wouldn’t be on stage without you. It was amazing journey for me! I love you all and I thank you with all my heart!" she said in her MyEurovision blog.

What the fans thought?

"Congratulations Azerbaijan - This is a wonderful song sung by a wonderful singer. You really take the Eurovision Song Contest very serious and I thank you for that. Great quality songs each year!" said a fan from Ireland.

"Drip Drop is an amazing song...and beautifully sung by Safura!! Good luck Azerbaijan - I have a feeling this is your year." said another supporter from the United Kingdom.

After all those positive comments, you might've said it's a sign of them ending up high and… it did happen! She finished fifth in the Final of the Eurovision Song Contest with 145 points and placing second in the second Semi-Final, held two nights before.
