For 2010, the Romanian broadcaster has changed the rules for their national selection. The semi-finals from former years have gone and with just one single final this year the aim is to find "the best song performed by the best voice". There is an extra incentive for the composers this year too, as the winning writer will not only be guaranteed a spot in this year's Eurovision Song Contest, he will also become the owner of a brand new car!
There is no clear favourite in this year's field, but the song Come As One by Hotel FM was the winner of the preliminary jury vote with Paula Seling & Kamara's It's Not Too Late close behind on the second place.
The line-up for tonight's final looks like this:
Razvan Krivach - Jack Pott
Luminita Anghel, Tony Tomas & Adrian Piper - Save Their Lives
Paula Seling & Ovi - Playing With Fire
Dalma - I'm Running
Alexandra Ungureanu - Crazy
Pasager - Running Out Of Time
Lora & Sonny Flame - Come along
Hotel FM - Come As One
Zero - Lay Me Down
Lucia Dumitrescu - See You In Heaven Michael
Paula Seling & Kamara - It's Not Too Late
Lulu & The Puppets - Searching For Perfect Emotion
Anda Adam & Conect-R - Surrender
Tina G. - Love Is War
Alexa - Baby
Cătălin Josan - Around Around
The Romanian Final will be held at the Globus Circus Arena in Bucharest and will be hosted by Horia Brenciu & Valentina Pelinel with help from Gianina Corondan from the Green Room. The final decision tonight will be taken by a mix of jury vote and televote: while televote will account for 50%, there will also be a specially formed jury with 25% influence and 4 regional juries in Cluj, Iasi, Timisoara and Craiova which will also stand for 25% of the total vote.
For the final, TVR had also launched a competition to create a mascot which will now be a part of the Romanian team in Oslo.
Romania has been participating in the Eurovision Song Contest since 1994 and the country has achieved its best result in the 2005 edition of Europe's favourite TV show when Luminita Anghel & Sistem came 3rd with Let Me Try. In 2009, Romania reached the Final of the Eurovision Song Contest, finishing 19th on the big night, with Elena and The Balkan Girls.
