Watch tonight: A song for Bulgaria

03 March 2013 at 06:50 CET

This year, the successful duo of Elitsa Todorova and Stoyan Yankulov will get another chance to perform in the Eurovision Song Contest after they came fifth in the 2007 Final. The fact that this has been the best Bulgarian result to date was a key factor for BNT to internally select the musicians this year.

Last year, a survey among Eurovision fans from all over Europe was conducted to find out which kind of song was given the best chances to gain a good result. The outcome was that a dynamic song with ethnic elements was the most liked, with a combination of lyrics in Bulgarian and English. This was another argument in favour of Elitsa & Stoyan. You can watch a clip with reaction from fans after listening to the songs.

A song for Bulgaria

These are the three songs in contention:

Dzupai, Libe Boso feat. Skiller & Jahmmi

Written by Elitsa Todorova and Tsvetelin Grudaiski, Dzupaj, Libe Boso is dynamic and joyful, hinting at the national folklore depths with the canto of Elitsa Todorova. The masterly beat-box methods of the world champion Alexander Deyanov – Skiller, are mixed with the rhythm of Stoyan's percussion, creating a unique “distinctive colour” for the song.

Kismet

Composed by Elitsa Todorova and Bistrishkite Babi, Kismet is a contemporary song in the chillout style, and is presented by Stoyan and Elitsa with the ethnic elements typical for the duo. The mix between the two radically different elements makes it notable and features the authentic folklore vocal skills of Petio Kostadinov.

Samo Shampioni

Written by Elitsa Todorova and Kristian Talev, the third song Samo Shampioni, is a striking and rhythmic song carrying an explosive emotional charge. Together in this song are Stoyan's perfect drum arrangement, the typical melody of Bulgarian bagpipes by Petio Kostadinov and an impressive vocal by Elitsa.
