Update: United Kingdom artist announced tonight

01 March 2012 at 11:00 CET

Over the last few weeks fans have been increasingly wondering when the BBC would annouce the act that would represent the United Kingdom in the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest.

When the BBC reopened their official Facebook page a few weeks ago, everyone though the announcement would be just days away.

Then, last weekend, as we reported, one of the British tabloid papers claimed that Atomic Kitten were going to be the British representatives in the contest, but within hours members of the group denied the news via Twitter.

Today on various websites and social media a number of well known names have been suggested; including Right Said Fred, Elton John, Mika, Bucks Fizz, Hurts, Daniel Bedingfield and Tony Christie. One of the most popular names being put forward is Adele.

With today being the 1st of March, it is St. David's Day in Wales, and many are speculating that it is a Welsh artist  who will represent the United Kingdom. Names such as Jessica Garlick, Katherine Jenkins , Shirley Bassey and Charlotte Church are popular choices, though it is the veteran singer Tom Jones who seems to be topping the possibile names amongst fans.

Is it any of the above? Or a name that no-one has suggested yet? We are keeping our lips tight here at Eurovision.tv for a few more hours yet.

Soon the wait will be finally over as the BBC reveal their choice for Baku, and you will be able to find out who it is here at 23:30 CET tonight. .
