Go_A will represent Ukraine in Rotterdam

It's Go_A for Ukraine! The band has won 'Vidbir 2020', the Ukrainian national selection with a total of 12 points. They received the maximum of 6 points from both the jury and the Ukrainian televote. Go_A will represent Ukraine on 14 May in the 2nd half of the first Semi-Final in Rotterdam.

About Go_A

Go_A is a Ukrainian music band that combines authentic Ukrainian vocals, modern dance bits, African drums and powerful guitar vibes into an explosive musical mixture.

Go_A was founded in late 2012. The band has already participated in many festivals (Koktebel Jazz Festival, Kraina Mriy, Gogolfest, Vedalife, Trypilske Kolo, Slava Frolova Art Picnic, Polyana Music Festival, Kyiv Open Air, White Nights vol2, SheFest) and presented Ukrainian music worldwide (Israel, Poland, Belarus).

In November 2016, the band released their debut album #Ідиназвук (Follow The Sound). Go_A music is gradually gaining popularity abroad: in spring 2019 their song Vesnianka reached the Top 10 іTunes Dance Chart in Slovakia.

Both the Vidbir 2020 jury and voting audience crowned Go_A their winner with 6 points each, adding up to a total of 12 points. KRUTЬ became the runner-up with 9 points and KHAYAT placed 3rd, also with 9 points.

Who are the jury?

The Vidbir jury consists of 3 members, Andrii Danylko (Verka Serduchka, Ukraine 2007), Tina Karol (singer, TV hostess, Ukraine 2006) and Vitalii Drozdov (director-general of Hit FM radio). The jury vote counts for 50% of the outcome.

Opening and interval acts

Verka Serduchka

The show was opened by the legendary Verka Serduchka, who started the night with her Eurovision 2007 entry Dancing Lasha Tumbai. Verka reached 2nd place in Helsinki for Ukraine and has made multiple appearances at the Eurovision Song Contest ever since, with the latest feat being a cover of Netta's Toy in Tel Aviv 2019's Switch Song. Verka finished with her new single Make It Rain Champagne.

Jamala

Eurovision 2016 winner and former Vidbir judge Jamala was invited to perform her new single Jalie for the first time on TV. The song was written in collaboration with Ukrainian rapper Alyona Alyona, who raps on the track.

Tina Karol

Tina Karol (Ukraine 2006), who is also one of the jury members of Vidbir 2020, was the last artist to grace the stage during the interval.

David Axelrod, KHAYAT and TVORCHI move on to Ukraine’s final

Qualifiers Vidbir 2020 semi-final 2 UA:PBC

After the first semi-final on 8 February, another 8 acts performed during the second semi-final of Vidbir 2020 tonight. David Axelrod (11 points), KHAYAT (14 points) and TVORCHI (16 points) have qualified for the national final on Saturday 22 February.

These were the 8 acts who competed during the second semi-final (finalists in bold). The running order of the show was decided by a draw:

The result was decided by the jury and public vote (50/50). The jury members were Andrii Danylko (Verka Serduchka, Ukraine 2007), Tina Karol (singer, TV hostess, Ukraine 2006) and Vitalii Drozdov (director-general of Hit FM radio).

The second semi-final also saw three guest acts: Sophia Ivanko, who represented Ukraine at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2019, Benny Cristo (Czech Republic 2020) and The Hardkiss (Vidbir 2016).

KRUTЬ, Go_A and JERRY HEIL qualify for Ukraine's final

During the first semi-final of Vidbir 2020, the Ukrainian national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2020, 3 artists, KRUTЬ (16 points), Go_A (13 points) and JERRY HEIL (13 points), have qualified for the national final on Saturday 22 February.

The result was decided by the Vidbir jury and Ukrainian televoters (50/50). In case of a tie, the participant with the highest audience vote was chosen. The jury consisted of Andrii Danylko (Verka Serduchka, Ukraine 2007), Tina Karol (singer, TV hostess, Ukraine 2006) and Vitalii Drozdov (director-general of Hit FM radio).

A total of 8 acts performed during the kick-off of Ukraine's search for this year's participant. The country is determined to come back with a vengeance, after withdrawing in 2019.

Ukraine's Eurovision 2018 participant, MELOVIN, made a guest appearance in the show. MELOVIN finished 17th in the Grand Final in Lisbon.

On Saturday 15 February, 8 more semi-finalists will compete in the second semi-final. From that show, another 3 participants will qualify for the final.

Ukraine at Eurovision

Ukraine first entered the Eurovision Song Contest in 2003 and rapidly became one of the most successful countries in the competition, never failing to qualify for the Grand Final. In these 15 years, 2 of their entries have become winners.

Ruslana became Ukraine’s first Eurovision winner in 2004 and the contest was held in Kyiv the following year. After a year away from the contest in 2015, Jamala brought Ukraine back to Eurovision and secured the nation’s second victory in 2016 taking the competition to their capital again in 2017.

In 2019, Ukrainian public broadcaster UA:PBC decided to withdraw from the competition since they were unable to come to an agreement with the top 3 from their national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2019; MARUV, Freedom Jazz and KAZKA.

Ukraine announces results of semi-final allocation draw for Vidbir 2020

Public broadcaster UA:PBC and partner STB held a semi-final allocation draw for Ukraine’s national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest, Vidbir 2020.

Ukrainian public broadcaster UA:PBC has picked 16 national finalists together with partner STB. Starting from 8 February, the participants will compete in national selection 'Vidbir 2020'.

The participants of Vidbir 2020 will compete for the right to represent Ukraine at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

Assol

Assol is a singer who started in the Ukrainian show business at the age of 5, and he was a semi-finalist in the Ukrainian version of The Voice.

CLOUDLESS

The boy band gained popularity in 2017 with their song Mizh Svitamy (Between the Worlds) that became a soundtrack for a TV series. The band's songs often make their way to Ukrainian TV series and shows.

David Axelrod

David is a famous Ukrainian singer, musician and composer.

Elina Ivashchenko

She has been in the music business since the age of 5. She won the Ukrainian X Factor and The Voice Kids, she is a radio hostess, a vocal coach, and the Grand Prix winner at the Black Sea Games 2018.

FO SHO

FO SHO is an African Ukrainian hip hop project founded in early 2019. Sisters Betty, Miriam and Siona Endale are very proud of their cultural diversity and demonstrate it in their songs and energetic live performances. Their music is a combination of genres, from trap to hip-hop.

GARNA

This is a solo project of the Ukrainian singer Aliona Levashova in collaboration with music producer Oleksii Khorolskyi. Aliona writes her own songs and sings with the symphonic crossover orchestra Prime Orchestra and cover band Manera.

GIO

He is a young pop musician who writes songs and composes music, participated in The X Factor and The Voice and has performed with the orchestra Lords of The Sound.

Go_A

This band combines Ukrainian vocals, modern dance beats, African drums and powerful guitars. The band has participated in popular festivals (e.g. Koktebel Jazz, The Country of Dreams, Gogolfest) and represented Ukrainian music in Israel, Poland and Belarus.

Jerry Heil

Jerry is a young Ukrainian singer, songwriter and composer. She was named ‘Breakthrough of the Year’ by Jager Music Awards, ‘Discovery of the Year’ by Viva magazine, and became a nominee for the Ukrainian award YUNA 2020 as ‘Best Performer’, ‘Best Song’ and ‘Discovery of the Year’. Her song “#OKHRANOTMENA” (SecurityCancellation) became a hit with 14 million views on YouTube.

Katya Chilly

Katya is a famous Ukrainian singer, musician and composer and has headlined many music festivals. The singer’s achievements include 5 albums, appearances on MTV and BBC, more than 40 solo concerts in the UK and over 1000 in Ukraine.

KHAYAT

He is a young Ukrainian artist and songwriter, performing in folktronica genre. KHAYAT was a semi-finalist in last year's Ukrainian national selection. After Vidbir 2019, he released his debut album KHMIL that combines electronic music, ethnic melodies and Oriental tunes.

KRUTЬ

KRUTb is singer and bandura player Maryna Krut, whose musical journey started 15 years ago. Her unique style merges electronic sounds with the traditional music instrument bandura. She often represents Ukraine and modern Ukrainian music at various festivals and showcases.

MOONZOO feat. F.M.F. Sure

This is a collaboration of the Ukrainian electronic band MOONZOO and American rapper F.M.F. Sure. Released in late 2018, MOONZOO's debut album was named one of the best releases of the year by Ukrainian media.

A Ukrainian indie-pop band that won the award ‘Hit of the Year’ by Kiss FM and the prize ‘Fresh Blood’ by Jagermeister Music Awards. They were twice a finalist of APPS Music & SZIGET, performed at more than 20 musical festivals including Koktebel Jazz Fest, White Nights, Atlas Weekend and Waves Vienna.

Oleksandr Poriadynskyi

He is a singer and composer, songwriter, the youngest winner of the Ukrainian X Factor.

TVORCHI

TVORCHI are a young band from Ternopil that have enjoyed success all over the world. Their song Believe ranked top 10 in the Ukrainian Google Play charts.

The selection

2 semi-finals and a final

Vidbir 2020 will be divided in 2 semi-finals on Saturday 8 and Saturday 15 February, and a final on Saturday 22 February. Which artists will play in which semi-final and in which order will be announced on Wednesday 22 January. The 3 shows will be hosted by Serhii Prytula.

Voting

The Vidbir jury will consist of 3 members, Andrii Danylko (Verka Serduchka, Ukraine 2007), Tina Karol (singer, TV hostess, Ukraine 2006) and Vitalii Drozdov (director-general of Hit FM radio), and will decide 50% of the outcome. The other 50% will be decided by the Ukrainian audience.
