Two new finalists in Iceland

17 January 2009 at 23:07 CET

Tonight’s Icelandic semi-final saw another four entries on stage (qualifiers in bold):

• Páll Rósinkrans – Fósturjörð
• Ingó – Undir regnbogann
• Hreindís Ylva Garðarsdóttir Holm – Vornótt
• Erna & Lísa – Glópagull

This meant that the ballad Vornótt as well as Undir regnbogann, composed by Hallgrímur Óskarsson and Eurovision veteran Eiríkur Hauksson, will be performed in the Icelandic final. The grand ballad Fósturjörð and Glópagull, a choir-based rock song, are out of the contest.

In the semi-final show last Saturday, two songs were performed in Icelandic and two in English. Both of the English songs advanced for the final. This time all of the songs had Icelandic lyrics.

The two upcoming Icelandic semi-finals will take place on January 24th and 31st. The grand final, which traditionally generates enormous interest from the Icelandic people, will be held on February 14th. Already qualified since last Saturday are Edgar Smári with The Kiss We Never Kissed and Jóhanna Guðrún Jónsdóttir performing Is It True.
