Turin, Italy, to host the 66th Eurovision Song Contest in May 2022 🇮🇹

The capital of Piedmont will be the third Italian city to host the event after Naples (1965) and Rome (1991), thanks to Måneskin’s magnificent victory in Rotterdam the previous year.

Eurovision Song Contest Executive Supervisor Martin Österdahl had this to say:

'Turin is the perfect Host City for the 66th Eurovision Song Contest.

As we saw during the 2006 Winter Olympics, PalaOlimpico exceeds all the requirements needed to stage a global event of this scale and we have been very impressed with the enthusiasm and commitment from the City of Turin who will welcome thousands of fans next May.

This will be the first Eurovision Song Contest to be held in Italy in 30 years and, together with our Host broadcaster Rai, we are determined to make it a special one.'

CEO of Italian broadcaster Rai, Carlo Fuortes, shares his excitement:

'We are happy that Turin will host the next edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, the international festival loved by a huge audience in every country.

Thanks to the beautiful victory of the Måneskin, the Contest returns to Italy after 31 years, in a city that has all the characteristics to host such a prestigious event.

The choice made by Rai, together with EBU, was not easy given the very high level of the proposals made by the competing cities, which I thank for their enthusiastic participation.

From today, an exciting journey begins for Rai and the city of Turin that will lead us to May 2022. A great challenge for Rai and for our country’

The Host City is no longer… shrouded in mystery. We’re off to Turin!

Located at the foot of the Alps, our destination is famed for its galleries and museums, parks and piazzas, palaces and castles, as well as the superb examples of Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo, Neoclassical, and Art Nouveau architecture.

But as well as its historical significance, the city’s impact on modern culture cannot be overstated: Turin is the home of Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino (FIAT); the ‘Derby della Mole’ between Juventus and Torino FC; the Holy Shroud; and is the birthplace of Italian cinema.

The silent movie Cabiria (1914), shot in Turin by film pioneer Giovanni Pastrone, became the first motion picture to be distributed worldwide – as well as being the first movie screened at the White House! From neorealism to cinepanettoni, the moving picture is celebrated at the Museo Nazionale del Cinema inside the spectacular Mole Antonelliana.

If you’re looking to get your teeth into something other than a ‘Spaghetti Western’, you’ll soon discover Italy is much more than the ‘land of pizza and Sambuca’.

In fact, the wider Piedmont region alone is known for its Montebore, Castelmagno and Robiola di Roccaverano cheeses, Salsiccia di Bra (sausage), Piedmontese beef, Grissini breadsticks, Barolo wine, vermouth, white truffles, hazelnuts and, of course, Nutella.

Thankfully, Turin provides plenty of opportunities to dance off those calories; in the epicentre of Italian electronica you are never far from a dance floor or live venue.

Whether you’re looking for the next Måneskin in an underground bar, wanting to unwind with cocktails and jazz, or hoping to ride those Italo-disco vibes late into the evening, there’s a rich musical heritage to explore.

With so much to discover before you even consider the Eurovision Village, EuroClub, and the Contest itself, Turin has the makings of an exceptional Host City, as the Mayor of Turin, Chiara Appendino, told Eurovision.tv:

'Hosting the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Turin is, at the same time, a great honour and a great result for our city and our country.

After inaugurating a new season of great events, Turin will be a stage for music and culture, in a dynamic and inclusive international event that will involve the whole city.

We are delighted to represent Italy in front of such a large audience and we are already preparing to welcome guests from all over Europe. As always, we will be ready.'
