Top 10 Twitter Moments of 2014

With over 189,000 followers, our Twitter account, @Eurovision, is becoming an ever more important social media outlet for Europe's favourite TV show. Now we will look at our top 10 tweets of 2014, based on the number of retweets they received; and unsurprisingly they all come from May!

10. The Slavic Girls

You all remember Donatan and Cleo from Poland, right? They turned heads with their traditional, yet suggestive, dance routine and catchy number. The tenth most retweeted tweet on @Eurovision in 2014 is a picture of the group backstage just before going on stage at the second Semi-Final. 

9. "Tolerance, acceptance and love"

With 699 retweets, these words from the winner of the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest, Conchita Wurst, had a positive impact on a lot of people. 

8. WE... ARE... LIVE!!!

We were a little overexcited when at 21:00 CET on the 10th of May, the Grand Final of the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest went live from Copenhagen... and with 868 retweets, so were you!

7. Molly's Big Performance

She was the last to perform at the Grand Final in Copenhagen, but Molly from the United Kingdom was remarkably calm despite having to wait so long. This picture of her backstage just minutes before performing for millions was our 7th most popular tweet of 2014 with 1,032 retweets.

6. Conchita's Journey To The Top

This picture of Conchita, just moments before she went on stage at the Grand Final was unsurprisingly very popular with a massive 1,139 retweets! Did the smile on her face tell us that she knew it would be a great performance?

5. More of those Slavic girls

They occupied the number 10 spot, and they also take 5th place in our top 10 Tweets of the year. This time seen just before going on stage to perform at the Grand Final in Copenhagen, this picture received 1,150 retweets.

4. Magnificent Metrics

During the Grand Final of the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest, you wrote over 4 million tweets about the show! This graphic showing the stats was retweeted 1301 times making it the 5th most popular of the year!

3. The Winning Article

Quite unsurprisingly, our article detailing who had won the Eurovision Song Contest was pretty high up in our top ten Tweets of 2014. With 1,329 retweets you were obviously all keen to read about the show, and more specfically about Conchita Wurst, who was crowned the winner!

2. Conchita Can't Be Beaten!

During the voting at the point we knew Austria could not be beaten, we published this tweet and it became the second most popular on our channel in 2014 with a huge 1,842 retweets! 

1. Semi-Final Winners

By far the most popular tweet on @Eurovision in 2014 was this one, revealing who had won the two Semi-Finals shortly after the voting had finished in the Grand Final. With 3,342 retweets, there were a lot of viewers and fans who were obviously very excited by this news!
