Tonight: National final in Ukraine

After a lot of public discussions and heavy promotion, the Ukrainian national final will eventually take place tonight. The show will be broadcast live by NTU, starting at 17:00 CET (18:00 local time), and it will take place in the National Art Palace Ukraina. In a semi-final, the 15 participants of tonight's national final had been picked by a professional jury out of 31 entries. The contestants will present their entries in the following order:

  • Svetlana Loboda - Be My Valentine
  • GODO - Olvidamos
  • NikitA - Beauty Save The World
  • Alexander Panayotov - Superhero
  • Ira Poison - You Free Me
  • Kishe - Midnight
  • Tori Joy - Smile

The act to represent Ukraine in the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest in May will be chosen by a combination of televoting and a seven member expert jury. In case there is a tie for the first place, the jury will pick the winner.

Special guests of tonight's show will be the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest representatives from several countries. Among them are Sasha Son with his song I Love You from Lithuania, Lidia Kopania with I Don't Wanna Leave from Poland, Jade Ewen with My Time from the UK and the Belarusian participant Petr Elfimov with Eyes That Never Lie. Some popular Ukrainian artists will also entertain the viewers of the show.

The last two years, Ukraine reached the second place in the Eurovision Song Contest twice (Verka Serduchka with Dancing Lasha Tumbai in 2007, and Ani Lorak with Shady Lady in 2008). In 2004 Ruslana had brought victory to Ukraine with Wild Dances. This year, Ukraine will take part in the Second Semi-Final of the Eurovision Song Contest, to be held on May 14th in Moscow.
