Ticket to Tel Aviv: Meet Tamta from Cyprus

With the song ‘Replay', Tamta will represent Cyprus this year. Tamta will open the first Semi-Final on Tuesday 14 May in Tel Aviv, Israel. This is 'Ticket to Tel Aviv', our feature counting down to the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest.

On 21 December 2018, Cypriot broadcaster CyBC announced that they had picked Tamta as their representative for the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest.

Who is Tamta?

Tamta was born and raised in Georgia before moving to Greece at the age of 22. She took part in the TV show 'Greek Idol', and took second place. She is currently one of the most successful and influential artists in the Greek pop music industry, and also considered as one of the best vocalists and performers in Greece.

The press usually refers to Tamta as a fashion icon and as a modern Cinderella due to her fashion choices and the extraordinary achievements in her life and career. Up until today, she has released 4 studio albums, 12 digital singles and 26 music videos. Tamta has won a lot of awards and numerous award nominations. Most of her singles topped in the radio charts throughout the years.

Tamta’s song

Replay is composed by an internationally distinguished team led by Alex Papaconstantinou (Alex P) and comprising of Teddy Sky, Kristoffer Fogelmark, Albin Nedler and Viktor Svensson. The music video was shot in Athens last week and features elements of fashion and contemporary aesthetics that reflect the image of Tamta as a fashion icon and an artist in the full sense of the term. The video is directed by Giannis Michelopoulos.

Rehearsals for Tamta's stage performance of Replay are well underway, we caught up with her and her dancers in Stockholm, Sweden.

Cyprus last year

Cyprus achieved their best score ever at the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon, placing 2nd in the Grand Final. Eleni Foureira received 436 points for her song Fuego.
