With his song ‘Truth', Chingiz will represent Azerbaijan this year. The 28-year-old singer will perform last in the second Semi-Final on Thursday 16 May in Tel Aviv, Israel. This is 'Ticket to Tel Aviv', our feature counting down to the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest.

On 8 March we announced that Chingiz would represent Azerbaijan this year. Truth won the national song selection, organized internally by Azerbaijani Broadcaster Ictimai TV, in January, leaving more than 350 other entries behind.

Who is Chingiz?

Chingiz was born in Moscow, Russia and moved to Qazax in Azerbaijan, a city of just 20,000 people, when he was 6 years old. He learned to play the guitar and started composing his own songs while still a young boy.

Truth is about a dishonest, toxic relationship. The song explores the story of one partner who betrays the other, leaving them with a difficult choice: accept deceit or break free from false illusions.

Bulgarian-Austrian songwriter Borislav Milanov wrote Truth. He says: "Initially, I was a little nervous about how Chingiz would perform the song, since he comes from a different musical background. But meeting him totally changed my mind. He's so passionate about music and his own culture. We even added some unique elements of traditional Azerbaijani music, which worked brilliantly to make the song an authentic fusion of Azerbaijan and the West".
