Thea - a new talent from Malta
07 May 2010 at 15:24 CESTThe proceedings of the Maltese national selection show were opened by Chiara who performed a dance version of her 2009 Eurovision Song Contest entry What If We. Before each entry, there were postcards shown where the respective artists explained the concept of their songs.
Following the competitors performances there was a lengthy interval act which included a number of artists and bands performing. Firstly a band called Chasing Pandora performed two songs. They were followed by 1992 Maltese entrant Mary Spiteri who sang her Eurovision Song Contest entry Little Child and another song.
Winter Moods then performed and Armenia's 2008 representative Sirusho sang Qele Qele, her successful entry from the Belgrade edition of Europe's Favourite TV Show. Chiara rounded off the interval act by singing her 2005 entry Angel.
The voting was split 50/50 between international juries and televoting this year. The five jury spokespersons announced their votes one by one, followed by the televoting. Thea Garrett was a clear winner from Glen Vella in second place and Tiziana Calleja in third.

Who is she?
Thea has accompanied the North West Choir from the UK as a soloist whilst performing an oratory at the Anglican Church in Valletta. She is currently a member of Enkor, a gospel classical choir, with whom she also performs as soloist.
Recently Thea sang with famous Italian singer, Gigi D’Alessio on the opening night of his world tour in Rome and was again invited to sing in Milan, where this time Gigi accompanied Thea on his piano and let her sing one of his favourite songs as a soloist. Her song My Dream is composed by Jason Cassar and lyrics by Sunny Aquilina.
As a composer, Jason participated in various festivals both in Malta and abroad. He represented Malta in the Eurovision Song Contest 1998 in Birmingham with the legendary song The One That I Love by Chiara, lyrics by Sunny Aquilina.
They are renowned for finding new talent and good artists. Besides introducing Chiara to the musical scene, the duo also encouraged and worked closely with Kevin Borg, winner of Swedish Pop Idol in 2008.
She'll perform eleventh in the first Semi-Final on the 25th of May in Oslo, Norway.
