Switzerland: National final on February 1st

17 July 2013 at 21:17 CEST

The Swiss national selection for 2014 follows a similar mode as in 2013: First of all, the German-language and Rhaeto-Romanic broadcasters SRF and RTR are requesting singers and songwriters to upload their songs to a web portal between September 30th and October 28th. Out of all submissions, a 50/50 vote of internet users and music experts will pick the nine hopefuls that make it to the next round.

Parallel to this, the French-language broadcaster RTS will choose six entries, and the Italian-language broadcaster RSI will pick three more songs through a regional selection procedure.

What's new compared to 2013 is that, this time, all 18 acts that make it that far will have to perform live in front of an expert commission who will evaluate their live competence, singing abilities and stage presence.

Only the six who fare best will get a ticket to the Swiss national final, to be broadcast live from Kreuzlingen on February 1st. During that show, each act will perform both their potential Eurovision entry, and a cover version of another song. In the end, a 50/50 combination of televoting and the verdict of an expert jury will decide the Swiss entry for Denmark 2014.
