Svetlana Loboda fights family crimes

17 April 2009 at 11:45 CEST

With photographs that show Svetlana Loboda with wounds and scars, the Ukrainian representative in the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest wants to draw attention to the fact that, all over the world, women are being abused by their husbands. Often they hide all visible marks of their suffering with long clothes or sunglasses. By starting the initiative "No Family Crimes", Svetlana Loboda wants to give these women a voice.

"I believe that the big interest towards Eurovision and the attention of international media can fulfill an important mission and unite people around an important, social, originative idea and help people to struggle with such 'illnesses' of the societies," Svetlana comments on the question why she feels that the Eurovision Song Contest is the right opportunity to address that cause. Several famous people are expected to join her initiative, but their names have not been revealed so far. More information and a special calender will be presented to journalists and fans during the rehearsal weeks for the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest in Moscow.
