Prior to this Saturday's final, two Semi-Finals were already held on 9th February and on 16th February in TVR's studios in Bucarest and from initially 24 songs, the best 12 are now fighting for the number one spot.
The Romanian national final 2008 is seen by many experts and fans as one of the best selections this year. Many of the 12 songs participating have been praised by Eurovision Song Contest websites all around Europe, with two songs having been singled out as favourites for victory: Nico & Vlad Mirita's duet Pe-o Margine De Lume and the pop/classic fusion Shine by Swedish-Romanian trio Biondo who both won their respective Semi-Finals.
Established singers and songwriters
Lots of well-known names compete in this year's Romanian national final. Star composer Marius Moga is competing with the group Zero and their rocky Come This Way. Nicola - she represented Romania in the 2003 Eurvision Song Contest in Riga singing Don't Break My Heart - is back with the well-performed ballad Fairytale Story. Three of the twelve songs are Swedish in origin. Apart from the above-mentioned Shine, the second Swedish song Dr. Frankenstein will be sung by LaGaylia Frazier who already participated in Sweden's Melodifestival twice before. Rednex, the popular Swedish country-pop act, has worked together with Romanian group Ro-mania just like last year. The result of their collaboration is the catchy RailRoad, RailRoad.

The winner in the Romanian final will be chosen by a mixture of 50% televote and 50% jury. Romania will compete in the first Semi-Final of the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest on the 20th of May.
