No less than 480 artists have taken part in the first round, and the team of the Spanish TV website is now in the process of validating the entries. Next Monday, 18th of January at 12:00, the final list of artists that proceed to the next round will be announced and the voting period will be opened.
Pop/Rock is the predominant music style and the artists are mostly from Barcelona and Madrid including new and established ones. Among those who are said to have sent songs to the selection are 1995 Eurovision Song Contest runner-up, Anabel Conde, 2008 Spanish selection runner-up, Coral, Operación Triunfo 2 winner Ainhoa and popular journalist Karmele Marchante, who's created a lot of controversy in the media with her intention to represent TVE.
The period to cast votes in the site ends on the 5th of February and each user will be able to give five votes per day from a valid e-mail account. The votes won't be added in real time to guarantee that each and one of them is valid. Once validated, the votes will be added in a ranking page of "the most voted" that will be updated several times a day.
In any case, like in previous years, TVE has the right to deduct invalid votes made with robots or scripts and to eliminate in any moment any candidate that's not fulfilling the rules. When this process is over, the ten candidates that get the highest amount of votes will take part in a special show in TVE where the audience, through SMS and telephone voting, and a jury on a 50/50 basis will choose Spain's entry.
Spain is a direct qualifier for the Final of the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest to take place in Oslo's Telenor Arena, the 29th of May.
