Spanish song to be chosen in public selection

14 December 2012 at 16:20 CET

Today the Spanish broadcaster TVE keeps revealing their plans for the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö

As we published earlier this week, in the next few days we will know the name of the act that will represent Spain in Malmö on the 18th of May. The performer is chosen internally by TVE, as it was Pastora Soler in December last year.

Pastora's song for Baku, the ballad Quedate Conmigo (Stay With Me), was chosen in a special TV show where Pastora Soler performed three songs. An expert jury and the televote in a 50/50 vote selected the winning song. This will also be the case next year.

The candidate songs will be published first through TVE's official website. After this, the 2013 Spanish entry will be chosen at a special TV gala by the votes of the viewers and the designated juries.

The Eurovision Song Contest in Spain

Spain will trust again in an artist with an established career and experience in the music business. The method of selecting internally a professional artist has been used by TVE many times in the past, although lately only their 2012 participant was chosen without a public selection.

The 2012 Eurovision Song Contest Final was the most watched one in Spain since 2008. More than 7 million people tuned in to watch Pastora Soler's performance and the whole show averaged a 43,5% share rating, becoming of the 2012 top shows.
