Spain involves MySpace in selection battle
22 January 2008 at 23:57 CETThe ten best entries, chosen by the online voters and an expert jury, will take part in a national final on the 1st of March, Federico Llano of TVE told Eurovision.tv. Singers, groups and bands have 19 days to register for the online competition - entries are being accepted until the 10th of February. Although artists and song writers expressed their worries about the short time frame and the need to either start or update their MySpace profiles, fans praise TVE for initiating an innovative national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest.
As soon as the submission term ends, online voters can judge the entries to pick five finalists and an expert jury will pick another five hopefuls. On the 20th of February, we will know which ten lucky ones proceed to the televised national final. A tricky and tight schedule, but TVE seems to be up for the challenge!
The lucky ten will perform during a live show on the 1st of March. Through televoting, the Spanish audience will decide who will represent their country at the 53rd Eurovision Song Contest in Belgrade, Serbia.
Participants must be able to prove that they have been living in Spain for at least two years in order to enter the competition. Their song can be written in Spanish-Castilian, Catalan, Basque and Galician) and participants are allowed have parts sung in any of the languages of the participating countries at the Eurovision Song Contest. Thus, Spain is most likely to perform a song in one of its own languages in Belgrade.
