14 December 2023 at 14:24 CET
Spanish broadcaster RTVE has released the 16 songs that will be participating in 'Benidorm Fest' in January, with the winner of the three-night event going on to represent Spain at the 68th Eurovision Song Contest.

All ears are of course on José Feliciano's festive classic Feliz Navidad right now. But let's intersperse our Christmas listening habits with the almighty 'Feliz Navidad' that our friends at RTVE have just dropped - the 16 songs that will be competing in Spain's Eurovision pre-selection.

Benidorm Fest 2024 will consist of two semi-finals (taking place on Tuesday 30 January and Thursday 1 February) and a grand final (happening on Saturday 3 February). But the hotly-anticipated tunes taking part were revealed by the Spanish broadcaster at a press conference on Thursday 14 December. And they're now available for us to stream to our 'corazón's content!

So, what have we got on offer? Well, director of communication and participation at RTVE, María Eizaguirre, is encouraging us to dive in with an enthusiasm for discovery:

"We hope that from today, these song will become part of your playlists. They are songs from a wide variety of styles and that is why we also ask you to give love to the artists, here and on social networks, because they have gone out of their way to offer you their work.”

Wise words from María, and it's a sentiment that can be extended to how we approach all of our new music finds this Eurovision pre-selection season.

Now, let's hit play on the 16 Spanish hopefuls for Malmö 2024. Over 800 songs were submitted to Benidorm Fest 2024, but it's these tunes that were deemed the most essential for Spain's national final:

At 2023's edition of Benidorm Fest, the sun shone warmly all week on the Costa Blanca, and fans who had come to watch the shows and soak up the atmosphere were treated to some nice January heat while enjoying the night-time parties and the daytime festivities.

RTVE can't promise the sunshine again in 2024, but they have been able to guarantee the fun times. Two concerts have been organised by the broadcaster so far; at la Sala Ku de Benidorm on 31 January, and outdoors in Plaza Triangular on 1 February.

Also at Plaza Triangular, the city of Benidorm will be installing giant screens, so that any residents or visitors to the city who weren't able to acquire tickets, will still be able to watch the live shows in a shared atmosphere.

And as if that wasn't enough, the city of Benidorm is also organising TapaFest - a gastronomic contest in which local restaurants will be taking part; guests to the area will be able to taste some treats and then vote on them. Buen provecho!
