Public broadcaster RTV Slovenia hosted the final of its national selection 'EMA' tonight, with 12 finalists competing for the ticket to Rotterdam. After a 'superfinal' round against Lina Kuduzović, it was announced that Ana Soklič won the national selection with her song 'Voda' and will represent the country during the first Semi-Final on 12 May in Rotterdam.

Comedian and TV presenter Klemen Slakonja hosted the Slovenian national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest EMA 2020. Last year's Slovenian representatives, Zala & Gašper, performed during the interval act before Ana Soklič was announced as the winner.

About Ana Soklič

From a young age, Anna Soklič developed and refined her musical skills at the opera and jazz academy, before she started to write her own music.

About the show

The talent

During the show, a professional jury including past Eurovision participants Darja Švajger (1995, 1999), Nuša Derenda (2001) and Maja Keuc (2011), selected 2 super finalists: Ana Soklič and former Junior Eurovision participant Lina Kuduzović.

Presenter Klemen Slakonja

Not all presenters are able to tackle both the job of hosting a TV show and serving Eurovision-worthy vocals. Presenter Klemen Slakonja took on the massive job of recreating all 25 Slovenian entries throughout the years.

Klemen also recreated Duncan Laurence's winning Eurovision 2019 entry Arcade, which ended in - controlled - tragedy.

Slovenia in Eurovision

Slovenia made its debut in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1993 having previously entered the Eurovision Song Contest as part of Yugoslavia. To date Slovenia's best placing in the Eurovision Song Contest is seventh, which it achieved in 1995 and 2001. Whilst Slovenia has not won the Eurovision Song Contest it did win Eurovision Choir of the Year in 2017. Last year they were represented by Zala and Gašper reaching the final with their song Sebi.

2 more finalists to be announced

The 10 selected artists will be joined by 2 newcomers, so the total number of competing acts will be 12. RTV Slovenia has introduced an online preselection project called EMA FREŠ to secure new and non-established performers under the age of 26 who have not released more than 3 songs. From this competition, 2 acts will go through to the main competition. One of the 2 acts from EMA FREŠ will be determined by a public vote and another by a professional jury.
