Slovenia embarks on a Eurovision Mission

Posted 27 June 2011 at 19:27

A bit more than one month ago, Maja Keuc managed to reach a very respectable 13th place in the Final of the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest in Düsseldorf with the song No One. It was only the second time that Slovenia managed to qualify from the Semi-Finals since 2004 and it's been regarded as a big success by their broadcaster RTVSLO.
Instead of waiting and repeat the successful formula, they changed the concept of selecting their representatve for Baku next year with the creation of a new TV show, "Misija Evrovizija" (Mission Eurovision) which will take place in the last quarter of 2011.
The show will be hosted by actor and imitator Klemen Slakonja while this year's singer for Slovenia, Maja Keuc, will also participate in the show. Check them out on the following gallery:
The mission is to seek a winner who will represent Slovenia at the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest in Azerbaijan while the song will be selected in a show, called as usual, EMA.
After Germany in 2010 and Azerbaijan this year chose their acts through casting shows in the most successful way, it seems that more countries are willing to follow on their footsteps and in Slovenia's case the invitation is open for anyone who feels capable of repeating the success of Maja Keuc or, why not, Lena and Ell/Nikki.
First a preselection with all applicants will take place around Slovenia in Celje, Maribor, Koper, Novo Mesto and Ljubljana where the ones going through will proceed to an audition in front of a panel of judges. In the tv shows the winner will be selected through a combination of televoting and the jury panel.
The show is already launched on its website and also in Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
The winner/s of Misija Evrovizija will represent Slovenia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku on what will be the entry number 18 for Slovenia in the history of the competition.
