Posted 31 January, 2009, 21:40

Tonight, the semi-final of the Slovenian national selection, EMA, took place. In a TV show presented by Peter Poles, who is famous for announcing the Slovenian votes in the Eurovision Song Contest in a funny and entertaining way, and Maja Martina Merljak, 14 songs were presented. Out of these, eight finalists were chosen by a 50/50 mixture of televoting and an expert jury vote. Here is the list of the semi-finalists (qualifiers in bold):
  • Nexys - Vsaj Za En Dan
  • Petra Slapar - Skrivnost
  • Lea Sirk - Znamenje Iz Sanj
  • Brigita Šuler - Druga Liga
  • Ne Me Jugat & Slavko Ivančić - Kaj Me Briga
  • Gianni Rijavec - Gloria
  • Aynee - Zdaj Vem
  • Krema - Ob Meni Si
  • Quartissimo - Love Symphony
  • Tadeja Molan & Retrobeat - Sanje
  • Bjonde - Blond Power
  • Karmen Stavec - A Si Želiš
  • Nuška Drašček - Kako Lepo
  • Mitja - Mission
In the final, they will be joined by six more songs presented by invited artists. Tonight's semi-final featured several familiar faces who have participated in the Eurovision Song Contest before: Karmen Stavec had represented Slovenia already in the 2003 Eurovision Song Contest, reaching the 23rd place with Nanana. You can read an interview she gave for eurovision.tv here. Andrej Babić, the composer of Quartissimo's entry, has already represented four different countries in the Eurovision Song Contest as a composer: Croatia (Claudia's Više Nisam Tvoja, 15th place in 2003), Bosnia-Herzegovina (Feminnem's Call Me, 14th place in 2005), Slovenia (Alenka Gotar's Cvet Z Juga, 15th place in 2007), and Portugal (Vânia Fernandes' Senhora Do Mar, 13th place in 2008). This year, he also participates in the Serbian national final Beovizija.
