Slovenia chooses Rebeka Dremelj for Belgrade

03 February 2008 at 22:56 CET

Rebeka Dremelj is very popular in Slovenia and had been named as one of the favourites by Slovene experts so the victory didn't leave the audience completely surprised. Rebeka had come third in the Slovene final 2005 where she was just beaten by some few televotes after winning the initial round of voting. This time she was more lucky!

Two rounds of voting

Slovene broadcaster RTVSLO had organised two semi-finals on Friday and Saturday with ten songs in each of which five progressed to tonight's final in the TV studio 1 in Ljubljana. The show was charmingly presented by the TV personalities Bernarda Žarn and Mario Galunič - the latter having a Sunday talk-show on the first channel of TV Slovenia which had to make room for the Slovene national final tonight. The winner of the final was decided in two round of televoting, first to select the top two, and then to choose the winner. Rebeka Dremelj managed to attract 56823 televotes beating the second-placed Langa In Civili by less than 400 televotes!

Many national stars participating

Lots of successful national stars participated in the EMA 2008. Last year's runner-up Eva Černe gave it another try with her song Dovolj and also the highly popular teenage stars 4Play and Turbo Angels participated.
