The Slovenian public broadcaster RTVSLO announced the participants of the EMA 2009 festival, the national final for the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest, today. The following 14 entries will be presented in the national semi-final, to take place on 31 January. They were picked out of 113 submissions in an open selection. Out of these, eight or more songs, as the festival rules say, will go forward to the EMA final according to the results of a combined vote of an expert jury and televoting.
Furthermore, six wildcard artists were announced who will go directly to the final. Their songs will be provided by commissioned songwriters, but the songtitles are not known yet. In the final, the winner will again be decided by a combination of televoting and the verdict of an expert jury. The selected singers are:
Both lists feature several well-known names who have already taken part in Slovenian national finals previously. Two artists have even represented Slovenia in the Eurovision Song Contest before: Karmen Stavec reached the 23rd place in 2003 with Na Na Na, while Omar Naber came 12th in the Semi-Final of the 2005 Eurovision Song Contest with his song Stop.
