Slovene public broadcaster RTVSLO issued a public invitation to send in songs for EMA 2009. The competition, to take place in February 2009, will be different from previous years. Six well-known song writers will be chosen to forward their best compositions. Invited authors will cooperate with RTVSLO in selecting the performers of the respective songs.
The Slovene national selection will feature a semi-final and a final, featuring the six entries requested by RTVSLO as well as songs submitted by others. Songs can be submitted to RTVSLO until the 28th of November, more information can be found on a special web page (in Slovenian).
The act that will represent Slovenia at the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest will be chosen by televoters and a professional jury. Unlike previous years, the winner will be chosen in one voting round, instead of two. The exact date of the national final has not been announced yet.
In an exclusive reaction to Eurovision.tv, Vanja Vardjan of RTVSLO said: "We decided to make these changes in order to bring the quality of the festival on a higher level. Our deepest wish is to make viewers as well as musicians happy before, during and after the EMA event."
