Slovakia: Flying through darkness with candles

07 May 2009 at 15:25 CEST

In a classy and noble looking setting, the Slovak duo Kamil Mikulčík and Nela Pocisková sung in their second rehearsal today. Nela wore the same long white dress as in the first rehearsal, and Kamil performed in a black suit again. Vocally, the duo was as convincing as ever, and the same can be said about the stage performance, in which the singers first move away from each other, only to be reunited again towards the end of the song. The LED screens in the background, showing an ocean of blue candles, fit the melancholic theme of the Slovak entry Leť Tmou very well. Denisa Dzunkova, representative of the Slovak public broadcaster STV, explained the idea of the performance, saying "everything genius has to be simple!" In the press conference, she thanked the stage designer John Casey, commenting that he had created a wonderful stage and they were overwhelmed by its looks and technical possibilities.
