Slovakia choose TWiiNS for Düsseldorf

18 February 2011 at 20:34 CET

The announcement by RTVS today ended speculation over the past weeks, where it was rumoured that the Slovak representative in Europe's Favourite TV Show would be either TWiiNS, Mista or a contestant from the talent show Super Star.

Identical twin sisters Daniela Jančichová and Veronika Nízlová will become the second set of twins to perform in Düsseldorf after twin brothers Jedward won the Irish selection last weekend.

The TWiiNS are no strangers to the Eurovision Song Contest, as they were backing singers in Belgrade in 2008 for the entry from the Czech Republic Have Some Fun performed by Tereza Kerndlová.

The TWiiNS have already recorded an English language album in 2009 entitled Compromise which included a cover of the famous Sabrina summer classic hit Boys Boys Boys.  On top of this, they have already released another four albums for which they were awarded three gold and one platinum record.

Song premiere on 5th March

RTVS have also confirmed that in the event of the TWiiNS being unable to participate in Germany, last year's Slovakian national selection runner up Mista has been chosen as a back up with her song Vendetta.

The Slovak entry in the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest, I,m Still Alive, will be premiered on March 5th at the Miss Slovakia Universe Contest. The song is composed by Bryan Todd, Sandra Nordstrom and Branislav Jancich.

Slovakia have been drawn to participate in the first half of the Second Semi-Final, to take place on Thursday May 12th in Germany. The TWiiNS exact starting position will be revealed when the draw is made at the Head of Delegation meeting in March.
