Silvi Vrait dies at age 62

Silvi Vrait was born on April 28th, 1951. She started her musical career already at a young age, graduating from the Kehra Music School as a pianist in 1968. Later she studied English philology at Tartu University and from 1994, she worked as an English teacher at the Tallinn French School.

In 1972, Silvi Vrait had her first appearances on TV, when she performed in the shows "Kaks Takti Ette" and "Käokava". In the following years, she sang with the ensembles Suuk and Fix, and she performed lead roles in several musicals, including Zorba and The Sound Of Music.

In the 1980s, Silvi Vrait was one of the musicians joining the Singing Revolution, an armless struggle in the Baltic states to regain their independence from the Soviet Union. In 1994, she represented Estonia in the Eurovision Song Contest with Nagu Merelaine. You can watch her performance on Youtube.

Silvi Vrait had been diagnosed with brain tumor in April. She died on June 28th, 2013.
