Sanremo kicks off today in Italy

The popular Festival di Sanremo kicks off tonight in the Mediterranean city of the same name. For five nights Italian Television RAI will fill it's prime time slots with the different show that comform the Song Contest:

Tuesday 12th

All 8 songs from the newcomers and half of the 14 established artists will introduce their songs:

  • Marco Mengoni
  • Raphael Gualazzi
  • Daniele Silvestri
  • Simona Molinari con Peter Cincotti
  • Marta sui Tubi
  • Maria Nazionale
  • Chiara Galiazzo

The seven established acts have two songs each; one of them will be eliminated after the joint vote of the TV viewers and the Press jury. Among the guests tonight, Toto Cutugno, the winner of the 1990 Eurovision Song Contest.

Wednesday 13th

Four of the newcomers will sing their song. Two of them will proceed to the newcomers final. The second half of the 14 established artists will introduce their two songs:

  • Almamegretta
  • Annalisa
  • Simone Cristicchi
  • Elio e le Storie Tese
  • Max Gazzè
  • Malika Ayane
  • Modà

One of them will be eliminated after the joint vote of the TV viewers and the Press jury. Among the guests on Wednesday the Italian Eurovision performers in 1978, Ricchi e Poveri, and also Carla Bruni.

Thursday 14th

The other four newcomers will perform and two of them will also go to the newcomers final. The 14 selected songs of the established artists will be judged by televote only and will bring the first provisional ranking. Among the guests on Thursday one of Italy's Eurovision performers in 1976 and 1985 Al Bano as well as Antony & The Johnsons.

Friday 15th

The fourth evening will be dedicated to Sanremo Story, a tribute to the songs that have made the history of the Festival, performed by established acts some of them paired with other artists. It's also the day for the newcomers' finals; the winner will be selected by an expert jury and televoting.

Saturday 16th

The final of the 14 established artists will take place on Saturday night; the winner will be selected by an expert jury and televoting. But before the results, the Italian performer for the Eurovision Song Contest will be announced live on the show and you'll be able to watch the whole final evening with us on our Web TV Player.
