Portugal will be represented by Salvador Sobral with the song 'Amor Pelos Dois'. “It’s a beautiful song, it’s a simple song and it’s easy to sing because it really talks to me,” Salvador says. His sister Luísa Sobral stood in for Salvador during the first round of rehearsals.

The song Amar Pelos Dois (For The Both Of Us) was written by Luísa. Having written multiple songs for her brother, this song was easy to write. The song talks about lost love; a couple who are no more.

Due to health constraints, Salvador Sobral has to spend the least time as possible outside of Portugal, which is why Luisa stepped in. A statement from the delegation read: “This exceptional agreement was accepted by the EBU, to whom we send our deepest and sincere gratitude. This is a personal matter and Salvador won’t be making any other statement regarding it – for that we ask total understanding and respect.”

Working together has been a special experience for the brother and sister team; "This whole journey has been beautiful,” they said. Luísa will rehearse again on 4th May and Salvador will arrive on 7th May ahead of the first Semi-Final.

Eurovision.tv will be catching up with Salvador when he arrives in Ukraine Kyiv. Portugal is returning to the Eurovision Song contest for the first time since 2015.
