RTVE: Over 100 entries received in 48 hours

26 November 2008 at 23:06 CET

Last year, RTVE selected its Eurovision Song Contest entrant via the popular social network for the first time. The groundbreaking selection method didn't only get massive attention in Spain and abroad, it also strenghtened the Eurovision Song Contest brand in Spain and brought them a controversial entry, Rodolfo Chiquiliquatre with Baila El Chicki Chicki. RTVE saw its ratings climbing, and saw its contestant for Belgrade turning into a media hype. It didn't bring Spain its third victory at the contest, but it did leave a lasting impression!

Now, RTVE again chose for this relatively new method of picking a Eurovision Song Contest entrant. Artists can enter songs until the 17th of December. Two days later, RTVE will open an online voting. Songs can be submitted through myspace.com/eurovision2009.

The online voting lasts until the 19th of January. The names of the 50 semi-finalists, who will compete in three televised semi-finals in February, will be revealed the following day.
