Romanian 'Selecţia Naţională' this year live from Baia Mare
02 February 2016 at 22:00 CET"Organising Romanian national selection outside Bucharest’s TV studios has already become a tradition for TVR," says Iuliana Marciuc, the Head of Romanian Delegation. "In 2014, we produced an incredible show in Brasov city. And a year later, TVR had a live broadcast from Craiova city. This time, our TV audience in Baia Mare will have an opportunity to watch this event live and to witness how it all evolves."
Romanian public broadcaster (TVR) also confirmed that the "Selecţia Naţională" will take place at Polivalenta Hall. The venue has a capacity of 2,500 seats.
The city of Baia Mare lies in the north-west Romania (600 kilometres from the capital, Bucharest), along the Săsar River, not far from the border with Hungary (70km) and Ukraine (50km).
Baia Mare city is also a hometown of Paula Seling, a Romanian singer and composer, who represented her country twice in the Eurovision Song Contest, together with Ovi, in 2010 and 2014.
Besides, according to the local authorities, Baia Mare is in the running for the title of European Capital of Culture in 2021.
Submissions for songs for this year's Romanian selection are still open, but the deadline is getting closer - 7th of February! Following this deadline the shortlist will be announced by Romanian broadcaster TVR ahead of two live shows in Baia Mare.
Romania has always qualified to the Grand Final, reaching 3rd place in both 2005 and 2010.
