Reidun Sæther, The Carburetors and Nora Foss Al-Jabri are through in Norway

For the third year in a row, a Semi-Final of the Norwegian National Selection, Melodi Grand Prix was been held in Ørland, just north of Trondheim. Rather unorthodoxically the show was held in a hanger of Norway's main air force base.

However, unlike the previous two occasions where two acts progressed to the final and two further acts progressed to the second chance round, tonight three acts progressed to the final. These were:

  • Reidun Sæther - High On Love
  • The Carburetors - Don't Touch The Flame
  • Nora Foss Al-Jabri - Somewhere Beautiful

The second chance or Sistesjansen round has now been replaced with a Thursday night preview show, so for 6 of tonights 9 acts, it may well be the end of the road. However there is a 10th place in the final up for grabs, which will be chosen amongst all the songs that didn't go through by an expert jury.

Reidun Sæther, The Carburetors and Nora Foss Al-Jabri will now participate in the Grand Final, which takes place on the 11th of February at the Oslo Spektrum arena.

In Baku, Norway hopes to better the result of Stella Mwangi, who last year missed out on a place in the final in Düsseldorf.

This year's line up of Melodi Grand Prix has been widely reviewed as one of the best in the competition's history, so, depending on how Norway votes, their dreams of progressing to the final on the 26th of May may well be realised.

Norway will participate in one of the two Semi-Finals of the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest, which is going to be held in Baku, Azerbaijan on the 22nd, 24th and 26th of May.
