Record number of song submissions in Denmark

09 October 2013 at 16:18 CEST

Denmark's national selection has been going from strength to strength during the last few years with song submissions increasing year on year. However, no one could have predicted the surge in interest this year with an impressive 872 submissions received; a whole 180 more than last year!

"This is just so incredibly amazing!", exclaims DR's head of entertainment, Rasmus Ladefoged.

He is convinced that Denmark's role as the host nation has played a decisive role for the many song producers that want to contribute to Denmark reaching the top in Copenhagen in May at the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest.

"It's a very special year for Dansk Melodi Grand Prix this year because we are going to host the Eurovision Song Contest. I think that has helped to create a lot of the interest that has led to such a good number of submissions", continues Rasmus Ladefoged.

He also believes that DR's use of time and effort to modernise the competition has made a huge difference over the years.

Now the hard work begins

A secret jury has already been tasked with choosing the entries that will compete at Dansk Melodi Grand Prix  in Odense on the 8th of March 2014.

"It's going to be really interesting to hear the entries that have come in. There both amateurs and professionals and of course we will also look at the Wildcards, or professional artists invited especially by DR. Now the work really begins", says Rasmus Ladefoged.

The jury consists of a group of accomplished music personalities and will remain anonymous.

The winner of Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2014 will represent Denmark at the Grand Final of the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhagen on the 10th of May.
