Poland reveals its Eurovision pre-selection lineup
15 February 2023 at 10:30 CETFollowing an impressive result at the 66th Eurovision Song Contest in Turin, Poland is once again using the popular Tu Bije Serce Europy! Wybieramy hit na Eurozję! format to select its entry to the 2023 Contest.
In Turin, Ochman took the widely acclaimed ballad River to the Grand Final, giving the Polish people watching at home a left-side of the scoreboard result to celebrate, when it finished in 12th-place.
Now, 10 artists and songs have lined up in the hopes of emulating that success in Liverpool.
Almost 300 songs were submitted to Tu Bije Serce Europy! Wybieramy hit na Eurozję!, with an expert jury deployed to whittle them all down to a competitive 10.
Tu Bije Serce Europy! Wybieramy hit na Eurozję! will take place on Sunday 26 February, at 17:30 CET.
These are the 10 entries hoping to represent Poland at the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool.
Ahlena – Booty
Ahlena (Magdalena Pawłowska) is a singer, songwriter and producer from Gdańsk. Music has always been a big part of her life, but in 2020, Ahlena decided to start composing her own songs and thus began her adventure with music production. Her music is a mix of pop, r&b and rap, but she is definitely not afraid to experiment with different sounds and styles when creating her music. In her debut track Booty, the artist shows off how proud she is of her curves and how, contrary to what some might think, she uses them to become the better version of herself.
Blanka – Solo
Half-Polish, half-Bulgarian, Blanka knew that she wanted to connect her life with music from when she was a teenager. She loves to perform plenty of complicated choreography on the stage, but she can also be found standing behind the decks, being a skilled DJ, too. The song Solo talks about a love which turned out to be something other than what it at first seemed.
Dominik Dudek – Be Good
Dominik Dudek is a multi-instrumentalist who comes from Limanowa, in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship province. He attended the Academy of Music in Katowice, where he played saxophone, guitar and piano. Soon after, he embarked on a tour of Poland and the United Kingdom with his band, Redford. Dominik has also won TVP’s The Voice of Poland. The artist writes lyrics and composes music by himself.
Felivers – Never Back Down
Felivers is a group of four friends (Miłosz, Konrad, Wojtek and Cody) who dream that one rock’n’roll will return as a mainstream music genre. Their musical idols include Machine Gun Kelly, Metallica and Youngblood, which goes some way towards explaining why the band from Sochaczew has a sound dominated by rock, pop-funk and trap. They focus on having a clear message, freedom of speech and heavy, live sounds.
Maja Hyży – Never Hide
Maja is a vocalist, influencer and also a participant of many music talent shows. The artist has had to demonstrate a great will to overcome obstacles in her life. Having had to undergo a number of major hip and leg surgeries, the will to recover allowed Maja to stand on her own feet again, 2 years later. That's why her song Never Hide is about overcoming perceived weaknesses. It is also a message to “never give up”.
Jann – Gladiator
Jan Rozmanowski has been involved in music since he was a child. From the age of 12, he sang at the National Opera. He also attended the Flynn Performing Arts School in Newry and studied vocal at the prestigious London BIMM college. He has an extremely rare voice, known as a countertenor. Despite his classical education, he focuses on ambitious pop and alternative music in his own work. The artist is responsible for both the text and the music of all his tracks.
Yan Majewski – Champion
Yan Majewski (or Jan Majewski) is an 18-year-old vocalist and guitarist from Radom, who became known to a wider audience thanks to performances in the programmes The Voice of Poland, Szansa na Sukces and Jaka to melodia. Since then, Yan has participated in many music festivals across Poland.
Natasza – Lift You Up
Natasza Urbańska is renowned as a theatre and film actress, a singer and a dancer. For many years, she trained rhythmic gymnastics - and became a Warsaw champion. From 2007, she appeared in the TV programmes Hit Night and Golden Saturday, broadcast by TVP. In 2007 she received the title of Viva! The most beautiful, in 2008 she was announced as one of the 50 most influential women in Polish show business, and in 2009 she won a Wiktor award in the category of Star of Song and Stage.
Alicja Szemplińska – New Home
Winner of The Voice of Poland 2019, this artist's greatest passion is soul and r&b music. Her sound is influenced by icons such as Aaliyah and Aretha Franklin. Last year, she was chosen as the Official Artist of the World Men's Handball Championship, for which she created the official anthem Stick Together. She was supposed to represent Poland with the song Empires at the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest, before it was cancelled due to the global pandemic.
Kuba Szmajkowski – You Do Me
He competed in Poland's pre-selection in 2022, with the song Lovesick, which gave him a 4th-place finish. Finalist of the first edition of The Voice Kids, Kuba was previously a member of a boyband called 4Dreamers. The artist is currently working on new music material with Swedish producers.
Poland will perform in the Second Half of the Second Semi-Final at the Eurovision Song Contest in May.
