Eurovision icon Petra Mede and Hollywood superstar Malin Åkerman have already got the 68th Eurovision Song Contest off to a strong start after the First Semi-Final. Before the Second Semi-Final kicks off on Thursday, they answered a few pressing questions from the media.
This is the third time that Petra has hosted Eurovision, but the experience is new for Malin. Reflecting on her first time hosting a live Eurovision show, she said:
“It was wonderful. It was so exciting. I’ve never experienced an audience like that — the energy was so high. It was truly just magical and I know for my family here in Sweden, it’s such a big deal.”
She added that the preparation has been “full throttle”. She explained that she’s never hosted a show like Eurovision before but has plenty of experience acting in films, saying:
“It’s different from movie acting of course. The only similarity is that you have lines. But normally you don’t play yourself.”
She said that the audience reaction is amazing, and something that you don’t get when you’re filming for movies.

Before meeting together in Malmö, Malin and Petra have had Zoom rehearsals. Malin described Petra as one of the funniest women she’s ever met. Petra returned the compliment, and noted how calm Malin is on the stage. Petra said:
“We love the craziness and the madness but sometimes me and Malin have to work against that energy, otherwise we would just be screaming all the time.”
On her third time of hosting Eurovision, one member of the audience asked Petra if there will be a fourth. She said:
“I’m just happy to do this again. I think this is the third and last round for me. But I’m just pleased people like the manuscript from Edward [af Sillén] and like the jokes and the tone.”

In the First Semi-Final, Petra joked that the first time she did it alone, the second time with a man, and this time with a woman. When asked what it’s been like with a woman she said, in true Petra style:
“You should try it, darling!”
People were keen to know if there would be an interval act to rival the famous Love Love Peace Peace of 2016 in Stockholm. Petra said:
“We are doing an interval act [tomorrow night], I can tell you that much. We do different kinds of interval acts. Mocking the Eurovision, that is our tone. You always joke about and mock the people you love, that’s what you do as a comedian. You don’t bother about the others.”
