14 January 2011 at 18:50 CET

The Irish selections for the Eurovision Song Contest will be a show of five participants. The star for Düsseldorf will be picked from the line-up of Jedward, Nikki Kavanagh, The Vard Sisters, Don Mescall and an as of yet unnamed EMI quartet.

Successful duo

Jedward is a pop rap duo with considerable success since the break-though in the talent show X Factor 2009. The duo consists of the identical twins John and Edward Grimes, known for wearing distinctive blonde quiffs.

In the Irish final, labeled The Late Late Eurosong 2011, they will face competition from a girl with routine from the Eurovision Song Contest itself. Nikki Kavanagh went to Oslo for last year's Eurovision Song Contest, where she helped Niamh Kavanagh to a place in the Grand Final. The entry, It's For You, finished in 23rd place. For 2011, Nikki will be hoping to top that.

Trained by professionals

The talents performing in the The Late Late Eurosong 2011 will be trained by music industry professionals for the big night. The coaches that the artist's will meet are Ronan Hardiman, David Hayes, Caroline Downey-Desmond, Willie Kavanagh and Liam Lawton.

The winner will be decided from a combination of jury votes and tele voting.
