OG3NE sisters from the Netherlands showcase vocal harmony02 May 2017 at 17:05 CEST
"It’s going to be beautiful," the three sisters agreed when talking to Eurovision.tv, right before their first rehearsal. When they come out of their dressing room it is clear — OG3NE will light up the stage in their sparkling outfits. Designer Tygo Boeker also designed the much debated dress for Trijntje Oosterhuis for the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest. "Even though the three of us are very different from each other, we want our outfits to match our personalities," they said.
After the first rehearsal, Eurovision.tv caught up with the girls again: "It felt so good to finally be up there. We have been waiting for this for so long and now everything comes together," Shelley happily says.
The Dutch delegation did bring a few suggestions for changes to their second rehearsal, later this week. "It’s still a first rehearsal, so there are definitely things that need adjustment, like some camera angles and lights. We’ve only been imagining the total performance up until to now, so it feels good to see everything in real life on stage."
A proud father
Rick Vol, the father of the three girls, wrote Lights and Shadows and is in Kyiv to support his daughters. "It’s fantastic what the girls are doing. They are so focused, so relaxed and so sweet. As a parent, there is nothing I can do than just be incredibly proud.”
...and an even more proud mother
The song Lights And Shadows is a tribute to the girls’ mother, who has been ill for several years. Unfortunately she will not be in Kyiv, but their mother will definitely watch the show from home: "She would love to be here, but unfortunately she is not able to come," Rick says. Amy adds: "Our mom will watch the show together with her girlfriends, that is where she can see the show the best."
Amy, Lisa and Shelley are no strangers to the Eurovision Family. In 2007, the sisters represented the Netherlands during the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. When Eurovision.tv asks what they remember most, is that there were so many kids running on stage, including themselves. "There was so much applause and noise all the time. All the contestants and their families were super competitive, so everyone in the arena was cheering as loud as they could," Lisa recalled.
If there is any advice they can give to future Junior Eurovision participants, it would be just to go for it. "It is important to have fun and to find your own strength," Amy said. Shelley: "Don’t copy anyone, be unique."
Shelley came to the venue well-prepared, as she posts on Instagram:
OG3NE will take the stage again on Saturday, 6th of May, for their second rehearsal. The Dutch group will perform the song Lights and Shadows in the second Semi-Final on Thursday, 11th of May.
