According to BBC News Norton told he had grown up with "Terry Wogan doing Eurovision". He hopes to make his mark at the music event but will tone down his jokes.
"I imagine this year I won't say very much because I don't want to tread into Terry's world too much," Norton said, "If I am lucky to do it again I might build my part."
He will also help Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber in the search to find United Kingdom next entry for the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest. The musicals' maestro will compose the entry but a nationwide search for a singer or a group to perform it.
