A brand-new national final will select Germany's next Eurovision entry
31 October 2024 at 11:30 CETChefsache ESC 2025 - Wer singt für Deutschland?... It's the catchy name that's gonna be on everyone's lips, you mark our words!
More specifically, it's Germany's pre-selection for the 69th Eurovision Song Contest. And with a strong team already assembled for what's going to be a collaborative effort to find a song for Basel, it's now been revealed that the German national final will take place over not just one evening of live television... Not a mere two evenings... And not even three evenings!
Chefsache ESC 2025 - Wer singt für Deutschland? will take up residency on primetime German TV for a total of 4 nights next year.
Organised jointly by ARD, RTL and Stefan Raab, the all-star song-finding syndicate have put together a whole-new format for boosting Germany's Eurovision hopes.
Across the first three live shows, broadcast on RTL, Stefan Raab and his team of fellow judges will be looking for the absolute best out of an initial selection of 24 acts. During these shows, the acts will compete in several singing rounds and song disciplines.
Once that Raab roundup is complete, the all-important final of Chefsache ESC 2025 - Wer singt für Deutschland? will then be broadcast live on ARD, organised by NDR.
The decision as to who will represent Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest in Switzerland will be placed entirely in the hands of the viewers watching and voting at home.
On hosting duties across all 4 shows will be Eurovision Germany's very own First Lady - Barbara Schöneberger.
Any acts interested in taking part can register now at raab-casting.de, eurovision.de or rtl.de. Solo musicians and bands are eligible to apply. The closing date for applications is 28 November at 23:59 CET.
Christine Strobl, ARD Programme Director, comments:
“Special events call for special collaborations: I am thrilled to be working together with Stefan Raab and RTL to boost anticipation for Eurovision Song Contest 2025. Eurovision is a unique music show that has TV nations across Europe glued to the screen, uniting Europe for a very special moment – and this is exactly the feeling we want to convey to the German audience on their way to Basel with a great pre-selection.”
Inga Leschek, Chief Content Officer at RTL Germany, enthuses:
"What an honour to be part of the Eurovision Song Contest! Side by side with ARD and Stefan Raab, we are dedicating ourselves to the national task of the Eurovision Song Contest and will use the full reach of RTL Germany to find the German star for Basel. We are looking forward to this special collaboration and three great RTL music shows in spring 2025."
