Miriana Conte will represent Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest 2025
09 February 2025 at 00:51 CETWe were on a trip to Ta' Qali on Saturday 8 February as the Maltese city hosted the nation's search for its song for Basel.
At the final of Malta Eurovision Song Contest, we got to see 16 artists present their songs in the hope of flying that Maltese flag in Basel. After the finalists had performed and the votes were counted, we had a winner: Miriana Conte will represent Malta at the 69th Eurovision Song Contest with the song Kant - which is the Maltese word for singing.
Miriana Conte won the public vote with a points tally of 94 - which, when combined with the jury vote, gave her winning song a total score of 182 points.
Kristy Spiteri's Heaven Sent finished in second place with 174 points, while Kantera's Lalaratatakeke Lalaratakabum earned the bronze-medal position with 137 points.
Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest
Malta debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1971 when Joe Grech performed Marija l-Maltija (‘The Girl From Malta’).
The tiny island nation has come close to winning on several occasions, including when Mary Spiteri finished third with Little Child in 1992, and the time Ira Losco’s 7th Wonder took the runner-up spot in 2002.
The most successful Maltese artist is Chiara who placed 3rd in 1998 with The One That I Love and 2nd in 2005 with Angel, as well as finishing 22nd in 2009 with the ballad What If We.
While Malta has yet to win the Eurovision Song Contest, they have had lots of success in Junior Eurovision, winning on two occasions thanks to Gaia Cauchi in 2013, and Destiny Chukunyere in 2015 who would go on to represent Malta in the senior Contest in both 2020 and 2021.
