The 2025 edition of 'Benidorm Fest' has a winner! 'Esa Diva' by Melody has won the Spanish song contest and will head to Eurovision in May.

We paid a vacation-mode visit to Benidorm on Saturday night for the 4th edition of Spain's increasingly popular song contest Benidorm Fest. And while we were there - would you believe it - the country selected its entry to the 69th Eurovision Song Contest!

By midnight, we had our Benidorm Fest winner and Spain now has its song for Basel! It's Esa Diva, and it's performed by Melody.

The Palau Municipal d'Esports l'Illa de Benidorm played host to the competition once again and, as with the semi-finals, we had the joy of Ruth Lorenzo, Paula Vázquez and Inés Hernand serving as our trio of talented 'tías' for the evening - taking viewers through the performances and the voting.

Voting was done via an 8-member jury (made up of 4 national and 4 international experts), which accounted for 50% of the final score. And the other 50% came from the public vote, which was being offered as a free vote through the Benidorm Fest app for the first time this year.

Esa Diva by Melody topped the leaderboard with 150 points in total. Uh Nana by Daniela Blasco finished in second place with 141 points, while V.I.P. by J KBello came in third position, on 134 points.

Broadcaster RTVE revealed after the show that Melody's song had received 39% of the votes from the Spanish public.

Esa Diva was written by Melody herself, along with Joy Deb (who was behind Sweden's Eurovision winner in 2105, Heroes), Peter Boström and Thomas G:Son (who were behind Loreen's two Eurovision wins for Sweden - Euphoria and Tattoo), and Juan Sueiro and Alberto Lorite.

Spain at the Eurovision Song Contest

Spain joined the Eurovision Song Contest back in 1961, finishing 9th on their debut courtesy of Conchita Bautista and her ballad Estando Contigo (‘Being With You’).

Their first victory came at the Royal Albert Hall in 1968 when Massiel’s La La La pipped the United Kingdom’s Cliff Richard to the win by just one point.

The following year, Televisión Española (TVE) hosted the Contest in Madrid where four artists tied for first place: France, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and Spain’s very own Salomé with Vivo Cantando (‘I Live Singing’).

Though Spain hasn’t won the Eurovision Song Contest since the 1960s, they did win Junior Eurovision in 2004 thanks to María Isabel and her track Antes Muerta Que Sencilla (‘I’d Rather Be Dead Than Plain’).
