Melodifestivalen: Globen awaits Timoteij and Darin
20 February 2010 at 22:26 CETThe third week of the 2010 Melodifestivalen saw one of the big favourites appearing in Gothenburg's Scandinavium. Darin - runner-up in Swedish Idol in 2004 and one of the best-selling artists in Sweden - made his long-awaited debut in the country's biggest TV-show. National broadcaster SVT had asked him to participate as a wildcard every year since he became famous, but only this year he felt comfortable entering with his midtempo ballad You're Out Of My Life. He was joined in this week's field by lots of newcomers in the competition, but also by the veterans of Alcazar who had participated three times in Melodifestivalen before. Another known face was Elin Lanto who narrowly missed out the final in 2007 when she performed Money.
The 8 participants fighting for two vacant spots in the final were the following (qualifiers in bold)
- Alcazar - Headlines
- Johannes Bah Kuhnke - Tonight
- Elin Lanto - Doctor Doctor
- Erik Linder - Hur Kan Jag Tro På Kärlek
- Getty Domein - Yeba
- Timoteij - Kom
- Darin - You're Out Of My Life
- Crucified Barbara - Heaven Or Hell
Crucified Barbara and Alcazar shouldn't give up their hopes yet as they will have another chance to grab a place in the final. They will participate in the so called Andra Chansen - the Second Chance round which will take place in two weeks' time.
Next week, the Melodifestivalen circus will move to the southern city of Malmö where 8 more artists will have a chance to grab a spot for the final.
Sweden managed to reach the final of the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest with Malena Ernman's La Voix which was ultimately placed 21st.
Eurovision.tv's Gustav Dahlander had a chat with the female hard rock band Crucified Barbara who closed the evening with the rock ballad Heaven Or Hell. Listen to what the girls had to say about music like theirs entering for the Eurovision Song Contest!
