A total of 182 songs were originally submitted to the Maltese selction. These were narrowed down to 56 Semi Finalists. These songs were showcased weekly, seven songs at a time over eight weeks from last November through to the beginning of January this year. In the last show twenty finalists were revealed.
In the final, after the twenty songs were presented, they were narrowed down to a super final of three songs. Five international juries ranked all 20 songs in order of preference. A sixth set of votes, also with the same weighting as the juries votes was then added and these were based upon the televoting figures from the semi-finals.
Public televoting then would go on to decide whether Chiara, Eleanor Cassar or Q would get the Maltese ticket to Moscow. After an anxious wait, the results were finally announced, and it emerged that Chiara was chosen by the Maltese public to represent them in Moscow. See her winning entry What If We below!

Eurovision Song Contest fan favourite

Chiara is an Eurovision Song Contest legend and fan favourite. She rose to stardom after performing The One That I Love in 1998 which placed third. The second time she took the huge responsibility was in 2005 in Kyiv, Ukraine and she performed Angel, placing second.
In that same year, supported as always by her father Chiara worked on her new album. This album consists of a number of songs written by songwriters from Sweden, Belgium and the United States, amongst Diane Warren, who undoubtedly is one of the most successful songwriters of the past decades.
Chiara will perform second to last - seventeenth - in the first Semi-Final of this year's Europe's favourite TV-show on 12th of May in Moscow. Read more about her here.
Will three be the charm for her and she'll bring the trophy home?
