A total of 182 songs were originally submitted to the Maltese selction. These were narrowed down to 56 Semi Finalists. These songs were showcased weekly, seven songs at a time over eight weeks from last November through to the beginning of January this year. In the last show twenty finalists were revealed.
In the final, after the twenty songs were presented, they were narrowed down to a super final of three songs. Five international juries ranked all 20 songs in order of preference. A sixth set of votes, also with the same weighting as the juries votes was then added and these were based upon the televoting figures from the semi-finals.
Public televoting then would go on to decide whether Chiara, Eleanor Cassar or Q would get the Maltese ticket to Moscow. After an anxious wait, the results were finally announced, and it emerged that Chiara was chosen by the Maltese public to represent them in Moscow. See her winning entry What If We below!
