The original double winner is coming to Malmö: Johnny Logan returns
03 May 2024 at 08:00 CESTHe was the first artist to win the Eurovision Song Contest twice back in 1987 (and then he went and won it a third time in 1992 as a songwriter), so it feels fitting that Johnny Logan has been invited to join in on the celebrations now that a second double winner has joined the ranks almost four decades later.
Loreen's Eurovision victory with Tattoo in Liverpool has taken the Contest to Malmö, and now Swedish broadcaster SVT wants Ireland's Johnny Logan to come along to the show and remind viewers of not just what an incredible achievement that is, but also who did it first.
The man himself, Johnny Logan, has accepted the invitation with great pride:
"I am extremely honoured and excited to have been asked to perform as a guest on 7 May at the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmo. Sweden has won 7 times, as has Ireland. To be asked to represent my country one final time is something very special for me and I’m very grateful to all involved with the decision. I’m really looking forward to being back on the Eurovision stage as a guest this time and not a contestant."
With Sweden having equalled Ireland's record of 7 Eurovision wins, and with Loreen having equalled Johnny Logan's record of 2 Eurovision wins as an artist, it's going to be a nice touch to see the two countries and their performers #UnitedByMusic in Malmö.
