Poland is on the rise: LUNA’s built a tower
04 April 2024 at 09:52 CESTPolish broadcaster TVP internally selected LUNA to be their representative at Eurovision this year. After a bop from Blanka in 2023 with Solo, LUNA will be following up with an inspiring hit about being in control of your own future, The Tower.
LUNA’s first EP Caught In The Night came out in November 2021 and her single Fade hit 14 Spotify New Music Friday playlists around the world. So it’s no surprise that she was nominated for an Empik award in 2021. It wasn’t long before she released her first album Nocne Zmory in 2022 — and we can expect more soon. LUNA is currently working on an English language album, with The Tower being the first track to be released.
In one incredible moment, LUNA saw her photo on a huge digital billboard in Times Square, New York. This was part of the Spotify Equal campaign, which promotes gender equality and gets more eyes on artists. And LUNA was the first Polish woman to be invited to take part. An appearance on the Times Square skyscrapers? A hit song with The Tower? LUNA must have a fondness for big buildings by now.
LUNA always turns up on stage in incredible costumes. But she has had a couple of fashion disasters. After finishing one of her photoshoots late at night, she couldn’t unzip her ballgown. So, she slept in it. Talk about beauty sleep. Luckily, LUNA says she doesn’t need much sleep, and is happy to function on coffee. Although she does like to dream, and we get a sense of that in her ethereal look, music, and dance style.
In another fashion faux pas, LUNA’s very old shoes were stolen from a pilates class in Stockholm, which meant she had to walk back to the airport barefoot. Own up Sweden, who has LUNA’s old shoes?
We asked LUNA who her Eurovision hero is, and she didn’t need long to think about it. She said: “Being a queen twice? Loreen!” She’ll certainly be happy to be heading to Sweden, home of the reigning queen.
As an alternative artist herself, LUNA draws inspiration from some genre-bending greats. She loves Kate Bush’s Wuthering Heights, David Bowie’s Starman, and Björk’s Army Of Me. She’s also a big fan of chart-topping pop hits like Spice Girls’ Wannabe and Kylie Minogue’s Can’t Get You Out Of My Head.
If you want to challenge LUNA to a sing-off, she’ll always start the karaoke with Miley Cyrus’ Wrecking Ball. Just please keep it away from that tower you so carefully built, LUNA.
LUNA says she’s looking forward to feeling at home in Sweden. She’s expecting to find excellent design, the best pop music, and fika — a levelled up coffee and cake break with friends that’s essential to life in Sweden. Please save us a cinnamon bun.
Look out for LUNA on upcoming episodes of the Official Eurovision Song Contest Podcast.
