Austria: LUM!X and Pia Maria's 'Halo' is a match made in EDM heaven
04 May 2022 at 12:00 CESTEven though the two only met as they prepared for the Austrian selection, the pair clicked immediately, and are thrilled to be representing Austria here in Turin. Pia Maria says:
I’m so glad that I could be here with Luca. I feel so safe with him, it’s like I’ve known him for ages! I can talk to him about everything.

Despite the fact that LUM!X is only 19 years old, he’s one of Austria’s biggest musical exports at the moment, with over a billion streams to his name as well as gold and platinum records all over Europe. Some of his biggest hits have been made in conjunction with Gabry Ponte of Eiffel 65, who is also featured as a writer on “Halo”.
I started making music since I enjoyed listening to electronic music, but I wanted to make it slightly different from what was out there on the market. So I started producing my own! Everything inspires me. If I go to a new town or new country, that gives me inspiration, too!
Pia Maria, a newcomer to the recording booth, comes from a background of art and performance. She’s a talented makeup artist and budding tattooist (who’s actually inked herself a few times!), as well as a lover of musical theatre. When asked about what her dream role would be, she said:
I always love to focus on my emotions, and how I can represent them through my music. I’d want any love scene, anything where I get to be emotional…maybe a breakup, maybe even die? Anything where I just have to cry myself out! Give me some drama!
Their song Halo deals with themes of empowerment, particularly after facing adversity. LUM!X puts it this way:
We made this song especially for our generation since we’ve all had a tough time. No chance to go out, no chance to see our friends, and it’s been super-depressing. We’ve had our problems, you’ve had your problems, and we’ve all been in the same boat. Let’s enjoy this new post-COVID era (hopefully), and listen to this song with happiness, and power, and come back stronger!
After Eurovision, Pia Maria’s incredibly excited about the new single that she’s been working on. Fans should keep their eyes open for her solo debut, I Know You Know, coming out soon.
If Halo's driving beat and uplifting message sound good to you, be sure to watch them perform during the First Semi Final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2022, on 10 May.
