It has been an intense last month for Kristan Kostov, this year's Bulgarian Eurovision hopeful, who hopes that five hours of daily rehearsals will pay off. "Just because I want to feel comfortable and not have to think of anything else than singing," Kristian said to Eurovision.tv.

Bulgaria finished fourth last year — a record Kristian is intending to break this year. "But in the end, it is not about the position we reach. I mostly want to be happy with my performance, be able to watch it afterwards and feel proud," he says.

Stunning stage

Before he came to the venue in Kyiv, Kristian picked up that other contestants thought the sound was amazing and the stage looked absolutely stunning. "I have actually dreamt about seeing the stage in real life. I can’t wait to rehearse — now I just want to go up and sing."

Kristian has a favourite part of his song. It's the build-up before the chorus when he sings Water so deep, how do we breathe? How do we climb? "I don’t know why, but every time i sing it I just think yes, yes — this is good."

Recharging for the next rehearsal

Kristian's first rehearsal went smoothly and he was very satisfied about his performance. The staging in black and white, featuring elegant yet powerful graphics, surrounded Kristian during his act.

Bulgaria's young talent will now take some time to relax in Kyiv and recharge for his next rehearsal.

Speaking of which — Kristian's next rehearsal is scheduled for Saturday, 6th of May. Bulgaria will take part in the second Semi-Final on Thursday, 11th of May.
